Daniel Cole

Daniel Cole

All of Dan’s paintings start with sketches that he captures en plein air, with colours, lines and shapes that the landscape suggests to him in the moment. He then takes this source material back to the studio where he develops abstract shapes and experiments with colour, line, and texture.

By using natural form and colour of each landscape as a starting point, Dan manages to evoke the natural details of a scene while also bringing in more atmospheric, abstracted colours and shapes with bold colours and energetic line work.

A long-time member of The Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA), Dan exhibits annually in their Natural Eye at the Mall Galleries in London. He has also won several awards for his paintings, including the Swarovski Bird Artist of the Year, and his work is held in the permanent collection of the Royal Cornwall Museum.

With over 20 years’ experience in Natural History illustration, Dan has worked for the BBC and most major publishers. He now paints exclusively for galleries and shows throughout the country.
